Middle Eastern firm Al Tamimi & Company has opened an Erbil office, following its launch in Baghdad eight years ago.
The office in the Kurdistan capital is currently staffed by a senior associate and an associate, supported by other regional offices – particularly Baghdad and Amman. The main clients for the Erbil office are expected to be in the property, construction and infrastructure and banking sectors.
Al Tamimi was one of the first firms to launch in Iraq following the second Gulf War, announcing it was forging links with lawyers in Baghdad in mid-2004 (26 July 2004). The Iraqi offices are led by partner Khaled Saqqaf from Jordan.
Senior partner Essam Al Tamimi said business opportunities in Iraq were growing along with the country’s economy.
Erbil is Al Tamimi’s twelfth office and its second new base this year. In June the firm announced it was launching in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, relocating partner Tara Marlow to head up the venture.
Only a handful of firms with roots outside Iraq are present in the country. In 2011 Eversheds gained a footprint there when it forged an alliance with Middle East consortium KSLG (25 May 2011), while others serve the country from Iraq desks in Dubai.
