Mayer Brown partner Alan Grimaldi recognized for commitment to pro bono and social justice

Mayer Brown announced today that Whitman-Walker Health honored Intellectual Property partner Alan Grimaldi (Washington DC) with the 2018 Robert Fenner Urquhart Memorial Award at the “Going The Extra Mile” reception for his commitment to pro bono work and social justice on behalf of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Mr. Grimaldi has partnered with Whitman-Walker for nearly two decades. He began taking on HIV discrimination cases for straight and gay employees fired or refused medical service due to their HIV status and has since successfully represented asylum seekers, including a young gay man who fled Honduras after his best friend was murdered by gang members for refusing to sell drugs.

According to Whitman-Walker, “His commitment to social justice is a steady force always encouraging new attorneys to embrace pro bono service.”

Whitman-Walker is a non-profit healthcare facility providing stigma-free care to Washington-DC residents, including individuals who face barriers to accessing care, with a special expertise in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV care.
