Dentons celebrates successful first year following merger with Maclay Murray & Spens

Dentons is pleased today to celebrate the first anniversary of the Firm’s combination with Maclay Murray & Spens, creating a UK footprint of six offices: three in England (London, Milton Keynes and Watford) and three in Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen).

Since completing the combination, Dentons has:

Achieved a 22 per cent rise in revenues across the UK and Middle East region during the 2017/18 financial year;

Represented KKR on its €6.8 billion purchase of Unilever’s spreads business, where lawyers from England and Scotland led on a transaction which co-ordinated work across 70 countries, and advised KKR-backed Calsonic Kansei on its recently announced purchase of Fiat Chrysler’s Magneti Marelli for €6.2 billion, drawing on teams based in London and Scotland;

Fielded joint English-Scottish teams inter alia acting for the Government and now representing the Official Receiver as Liquidator and PwC as Special Managers in the high profile liquidation of Carillion, and for C&C Group (owner of Magners and Tennent’s) on the acquisition of the wholesale arm of Conviviality; and

Appointed Scottish partner Amanda Jones as the Firm’s first Women’s Advancement Director to focus on the development and progression of women lawyers to partner and leadership positions across Dentons globally.

“One of Dentons’ founding principles is that each time we combine with a firm, we create a new firm,” said Jeremy Cohen, Dentons CEO for the UK and Middle East. “Over the past year we have invested a huge amount in integrating our two firms to become the new Dentons. We are now all actively involved together on every aspect of the Firm’s activities, from our client service teams and piloting new technologies and innovative approaches, to our Learning & Development programmes and CSR and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. The hard work has really paid off.”
“Most encouragingly, the merger is really delivering for our clients,” said Lisa Sewell, Managing Director for the UK and Middle East. “The extraordinary number of matters – more than 1,000 – on which lawyers from England and Scotland worked together during the second half of the last financial year is evidence of this, and contributed hugely to our strongest ever set of financial results.”

Dentons is now one of the largest law firms in the UK, with 600 lawyers. The Firm has 25 or more partners leading teams in each of the following areas: Banking and Finance; Corporate; Disputes; Energy, Transport and Infrastructure; and Real Estate. Dentons is also the largest law firm in the world, with over 9,000 lawyers working across 77 countries.
